At Comitium, we offer the possibility of connecting different social channels to facilitate content distribution from a single management environment. In recent weeks, several clients have raised doubts and incidents related to publishing on X.

The reason is that X has changed its API access model and currently operates under a pay-per-use system, managed directly by the platform itself. According to official documentation, it is no longer based on a fixed subscription for this model, but on the prior purchase of credits that are consumed based on the actual use of the API.

Some of you have not yet experienced this problem because Twitter has included 10$ free for free accounts, which is equivalent to approximately 1,000 posts. Once you consume these 1,000 posts, you will have the aforementioned problem. X reports that the cost is 0.01$ per post, but that it is provisional... 

What exactly has changed?

X indicates that its API now works with a credit system: from the Apps you have created in your Twitter account at https://developer.x.com/, the balance is purchased in advance and this balance is deducted according to the requests made.
 

How does this affect Comitium clients?

This change does not depend on Comitium or a modification in our CMS. It is a decision by X and affects technical access to its API.
In practice, this means that:

  • Automatically publishing to X from Comitium CMS may require the client to have active credit on X
  • If there is not enough balance or the configuration is not correctly activated in the X console, the integration may stop working
  • The cost of using this API now depends directly on the activity and commercial policy of X, which may also update its rates

 

What we recommend from Comitium

From Comitium, we recommend all clients who use publishing to X to review as soon as possible if their developer account on X:

  1. If they have enabled the pay-per-use model or the plan that corresponds to their console
  2. If they have balance or spending limits
  3. It is possible to activate automatic credit top-up to increase your balance when you are low on credits
  4. If you have a paid plan for your X Apps with Basic tier or higher, you don't need to do anything
  5. If they wish to keep this integration active within their usual operations

X's own official documentation also indicates that consumption can be monitored in real time from its Developer Console, and that it is possible to set up automatic recharges and spending limits to control the budget.

Our commitment

At Comitium we will continue to maintain and adapt our social integrations as much as possible, but in this case it is important to be clear that access to X depends on the technical and economic conditions set by the platform itself.

Therefore, any client who wishes to continue using automatic publishing to X from Comitium will have to take into account that this functionality may require additional external cost and specific configuration in their X developer account.
